Foaling Down Service
We have a dedicated and experienced team on hand to foal down your mare in a controlled and safe environment. There are many scenarios in which you may opt to have your mare foal with our professional team such as minimising your own stress, decrease wake ups and disturbances to your own life, immediate access to full medical and specialist surgical intervention in the unfortunate event that something goes wrong. Our veterinary foaling down service is also advantageous when foaling down high risk mares such as those with placentitis or a history of foaling complications.
It is preferred that mares arrive two weeks before their due date in order for them to build an immunity to their new environment, and therefore pass this onto their newborn foals. On arrival your mare is fitted with a foaling alarm and assessed by our repro vet. They receive twice daily hard feed and at liberal hay (or your preferred diet based on their individual needs), mares are examined twice a day and monitored throughout the day for any behavioural changes. In order to help predict the foaling, calcium tests are also performed on your mare’s milk.
Mares admitted for high risk foaling down are kept under video surveillance. We have large foaling boxes that have double access points as well as 24/7 video surveillance. Our large foaling down yards are also floodlit and under video surveillance. Our experienced veterinary and repro staff are permanently on site staying only metres away as well as the specialist surgeon in case of any emergency.
